Press/Video: Drew Barrymore interviews her 7-year-old self in first promo for her daytime talk show

Drew Barrymore unveils the first promo for her upcoming syndicated daytime talk show in this exclusive video.

Above is the first ad for CBS Television’s The Drew Barrymore Show and it features the 45-year-old actress interviewing her 7-year-old self. The promo uses footage from Barrymore’s classic appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, with Barrymore swapped in for Carson. Barrymore was on the show in 1982 following her breakout role in Steven Spielberg’s E.T.

The Drew Barrymore Show launches Monday, Sept. 14 and is described as “optimism TV, bringing information, inspiration, and entertainment to the daytime audience … celebrating every part of humanity along the way.” The show’s format is described as encompassing human interest stories, happy news, lifestyle segments, and celebrity guests.

Barrymore previously released a digital lineup of videos ahead of her broadcast premiere. The lineup includes a behind-the-scenes look at making the talk show (The Making Of The Drew Barrymore Show), and another that features conversations with talk show hosts who have inspired her (The Art of the Interview), including chats with Gayle King, Andy Cohen, Jimmy Fallon, Whoopi Goldberg and Sean Evans, along with other content. The videos are available on The Drew Barrymore Show website.

The publicity blitz comes just as a current daytime talk show that promotes the value of positivity and niceness (on camera at least), The Ellen DeGeneres Show, has come under fire. The show is reportedly the subject of an internal workplace investigation by WarnerMedia following multiple allegations from former staffers.

Here is Barrymore’s original Carson appearance, which shows the young star’s precocious charm and Carson’s ability to put his guest at ease after she takes a tumble walking out on stage:

Press: Drew Barrymore Comedy ‘The Stand-In’ Lands At Saban Films

Saban Films has secured the North American distribution rights to The Stand-In, the Jamie Babbit-directed comedy starring Drew Barrymore in duel roles alongside Michael Zegen, Ellie Kemper, T.J. Miller, and Emmy award winner Holland Taylor. The pic was an official selection of this year’s Tribeca Film Festival

Written by Sam Bain, the plot centers on a disaffected comedy actress who is busted for tax evasion and her adoring, ambitious stand-in who she hires to do community service in her place. A co-dependent relationship ensues as the actress begins to use the stand-in in all parts of her life to escape from the stressful demands of fame. Eventually, the stand-in starts to take the actress’s identity, career and boyfriend and finally kicks her out of her own house.

Caddy Vanasirikul and Brian O’Shea of The Exchange produced the comedy with Flower Films’ Ember Truesdell and Chris Miller and Tom McNulty. Executive producers are Saban Films, Drew Barrymore and Nancy Juvonen of Flower Films, IChristelle Conan, Anders Erden, and Simon Williams of Ingenious Media, Nat McCormick and Giovanna Trischitta of The Exchange, Misdee Wrigley-Miller, Jayne Hancock, Ross Babbit, and Danny Tepper of Wrigley Media Group, and John Jencks of J3, Joe Simpson, Jay Taylor, and Bain.

Bill Bromiley and Jonathan Saba brokered the deal for Saban along with CAA Media Finance, UTA Independent Film Group, and The Exchange on behalf of the filmmakers.

Press: Drew Barrymore Shoots Talk Show Pilot for CBS Television Distribution

Drew Barrymore is eyeing a move into the daytime talk show arena.

The actress, who recently wrapped three seasons of the Netflix comedy “Santa Clarita Diet,” is shooting a pilot this week in New York for CBS Television Distribution.

Details of the hourlong show are still sketchy. Barrymore is among the executive producers of the pilot, likely through her Flower Films banner. Sources said there is no showrunner formally attached as of yet.

Barrymore circled a talk show deal with Warner Bros.’ Telepictures in 2016, but a pilot never came to fruition, in part because of a lukewarm response from prospective station groups at the time. The new regime at CBS’ syndication arm is said to have high hopes for the show and faith in Barrymore’s appeal as a daytime TV personality.

After a few thin years of new entries, the first-run syndication market is getting a jolt this fall with the launch of three new strips with notable names.

Former “Today” anchor Tamron Hall is hosting a talker for Disney/ABC that bows next month. Kelly Clarkson is taking up the talk-variety mantle for NBCUniversal and Meredith Vieira will front game show “25 Words or Less” for Fox Television Stations. Jerry Springer is also back, this time in a court show dubbed “Judge Jerry” for NBCUniversal.

CBS Television Distribution has stayed on the sidelines for the past few years with no first-run launches other than projects it distributed for production partners such as Jay McGraw (“Daily Mail”) and Judith Sheindlin (“Hot Bench”).

Barrymore has become active as a TV producer and personality in recent years. In addition to “Santa Clarita Diet,” she was a judge on CBS’ reality show “The World’s Best” and she provided the voice-over for NBC unscripted dating show “First Dates.” Through her Flower Films she was an exec producer on unscripted series including TLC’s “Rattled” and VH1’s “Tough Love.”

CBS Television Distribution declined to comment.
