Drew Barrymore Introduces Daughter Frankie

Drew is the cover feature on the new issue of People Magazine on stands this Friday! Her and Will share family pictures of their new daughter Frankie!

Drew Barrymore is the first to admit taking care of a newborn and a toddler has been an adjustment.

The actress, who delivered her second child with art advisor husband Will Kopelman on April 22, says her recovery with newborn daughter Frankie was quicker this time around than following her first pregnancy with elder daughter Olive, 20 months.

“I knew that I have two kids to take care of now and just kicked my own butt to get back into the swing of things immediately,” she tells PEOPLE in this week’s cover story.

The biggest challenge? “Just being split. They’re awake and asleep at different times, or awake at the same time, and it’s a juggling act a little bit.”

Barrymore, 39, says her own tumultuous childhood influenced what she sees as most important for her kids.

She wanted Olive “to have a sibling, because I really would have liked that in my life,” she says. “And always being on time, being there when I say I’m going to be there. Creating a real stable home. I know when my daughter wants to swing higher and jump into the pool and all of these things, she feels safe. To make your kids feel safe is everything.”

Barrymore says Olive is relishing having a baby sister – so far. “Olive loves Frankie and just wants to hang out with her all the time,” she adds. “She wants to feed her. She’s super into it. That’s now. I’m sure things will ebb and flow.”

Now promoting Blended, her new comedy with Adam Sandler which hits theaters Friday, Barrymore admits she wasn’t sure she wanted to act anymore after Olive’s birth.

“I didn’t think I could go back to work, honestly. I didn’t want to be away from my kids and it just wasn’t the priority,” she says. “With Adam, he makes everything really safe because he really creates an environment where kids can come and be a part of it. It was a really big lesson for me.”

Knowing duty would be calling so soon after she gave birth “kept me at least physically present and sharp,” Barrymore adds. “As opposed to being a brain scholar, which I am not right now. As I walk into a room to get something and pass the doorway, I’ve forgotten already.”

Red Magazine Features Drew Barrymore

Drew is featured on the cover of the June issue of Red Magazine.

There’s something eternally likeable about Drew Barrymore. She can’t cook, isn’t keen on her arms and finds her daughter’s toddler-meltdowns funny. Here she talks to Sarah Kennedy about being a hands-on mum and the importance of ambition.

‘I am so ready to not be pregnant now,’ confesses Drew Barrymore with a rueful grin. As she chats to Red, baby number two is imminent, but California girl Barrymore certainly looks none the worse for being in chilly New York City. She seems to glow with health, although she admits her body is craving the warmth of LA.

‘I’ve been here for a month now, so I’m all out of whack,’ she says. ‘I am not feeling the greatest but, hey, it’s all good.’ She gives a big shrug and smiles sunnily.

On the day we meet, Barrymore’s daughter Olive is at home with her dad, actor and art consultant Will Kopelman. After a long friendship, the Barrymore-Kopelmans married in 2012 and are currently staying with his New York-based parents. Although rumours are swirling around the Big Apple that the couple have just bought a Park Avenue apartment, California is still home. The new baby – another girl – will probably be born there and Barrymore’s obviously excited about the prospect of adding to her brood.

‘I am loving being a mom,’ she grins. ‘Olive is a year and a half now so, when the new baby comes, they will be close together in age. I think, just get it done – it will be awesome!’

Wearing black skinny jeans, an oversized Breton-striped sweatshirt and Rag & Bone ankle boots, Barrymore, 39, looks like many other Red mums. One of your friends, in fact. That is, if one of your friends happened to be a Hollywood star, film producer, director, bestselling author, beauty entrepreneur and philanthropist. And she’s showing no sign of slowing down.

Drew’s Behind the Cover Beauty

Marie Claire gave us a peek on how Drew got her beautiful cover look for her new shoot for their February issue.

MAKEUP: Makeup artist Jo Strettell captured a strong, confident vibe with perfect skin, thickly applied mascara, and a classic pout. To get the look, she lined Barrymore’s lips, then brushed on a red hue, blotted, and reapplied to intensify the color. “Simple but striking,” Strettell says. HAIR: Hairstylist John D was going for an amped-up version of Barrymore’s naturally wavy texture. First, he worked in mousse for volume, dried her hair with a diffuser, and then bent pieces inward with a flatiron. NAILS: Manicurist Debbie Leavitt came up with a custom nail design featuring Flower polishes. “Drew is open to new ideas, so we decided to mix things up a bit.”
