Drew Barrymore is eyeing a move into the daytime talk show arena.
The actress, who recently wrapped three seasons of the Netflix comedy “Santa Clarita Diet,” is shooting a pilot this week in New York for CBS Television Distribution.
Details of the hourlong show are still sketchy. Barrymore is among the executive producers of the pilot, likely through her Flower Films banner. Sources said there is no showrunner formally attached as of yet.
Barrymore circled a talk show deal with Warner Bros.’ Telepictures in 2016, but a pilot never came to fruition, in part because of a lukewarm response from prospective station groups at the time. The new regime at CBS’ syndication arm is said to have high hopes for the show and faith in Barrymore’s appeal as a daytime TV personality.
After a few thin years of new entries, the first-run syndication market is getting a jolt this fall with the launch of three new strips with notable names.
Former “Today” anchor Tamron Hall is hosting a talker for Disney/ABC that bows next month. Kelly Clarkson is taking up the talk-variety mantle for NBCUniversal and Meredith Vieira will front game show “25 Words or Less” for Fox Television Stations. Jerry Springer is also back, this time in a court show dubbed “Judge Jerry” for NBCUniversal.
CBS Television Distribution has stayed on the sidelines for the past few years with no first-run launches other than projects it distributed for production partners such as Jay McGraw (“Daily Mail”) and Judith Sheindlin (“Hot Bench”).
Barrymore has become active as a TV producer and personality in recent years. In addition to “Santa Clarita Diet,” she was a judge on CBS’ reality show “The World’s Best” and she provided the voice-over for NBC unscripted dating show “First Dates.” Through her Flower Films she was an exec producer on unscripted series including TLC’s “Rattled” and VH1’s “Tough Love.”
CBS Television Distribution declined to comment.
Is it any surprise that her most personal project is also the cheeriest?
Drew Barrymore’s been dreaming of this toy chest for years, ever since it was yanked from under her at a flea market. “Another woman got to it first, and she would not let me have it,” Drew says. “I couldn’t barter this woman out. She was like, ‘I don’t care who you are or what you have—this is going home with me.'”
As soon as you see it, you get why this container’s been the One That Got Away: It’s sunshiny yellow, with a bold rainbow across the top, and just spacious enough to clear up a cluster of toys that’d normally cover a kid’s floor, becoming booby traps for parents in the middle of the night. It’s no wonder that when Drew decided to expand her Flower Home line into kids’ furniture and décor, creating her own riff on the chest was at the top of her list.
With more than 100 items in the collection—from bedding and art prints to melamine, vintage-inspired cups and plates—the actress/entrepreneur carefully considered each piece, selecting each design with the hopes that it’d shake up the monochrome, neutral, “Do kids really live here?” trend in the industry. “Something that always made me feel crazy was how un-colorful kids’ lines were,” Drew says. “I wanted to create something that I felt I couldn’t find as a parent out there. I wanted a lot of joy. ”
Though the products are mass-produced—all available now at Walmart, Hayneedle, and Jet.com—she wanted each piece to feel personal. That’s why each print has its own frame, custom-selected to go with the art, and you’ll never see a plain white lampshade.
“I feel like that’s just something you can find anywhere, and if I think I’ve seen it, or I think it’s easily available, I don’t want to do it,” she explains.
For a sense of cohesion, Drew stuck to a few specific themes, which she divided into rooms in the sneak peek video above. There’s a jungle room, meant for young explorers; a galaxy room, complete with fluffy, cloud-shaped headboards and a very David Bowie-meets-Atari lightning bolt bedspread; a rainbow room that’s every bit as vibrant and cheery as the name implies; an animal room, for all of the pet lovers out there; and a room devoted to Drew’s favorite color to decorate with: pink.
“I loved getting to do a room that was so absolutely feminine,” she says, noting the strawberry bedding and ballet-slipper-pink bed frame (also available in light wood), which is framed to resemble the outline of a classic, triangle-roofed home. “I love the house bed, because kids can create such a world within it.”
The 50 First Dates star drew inspiration from her own walls, too. That rainbow print in a child’s scrawl is an actual note Drew’s daughter gave her as a birthday present one year. A friend asked her daughter questions about her famous mom, to which she answered: “She says, ‘My mom’s name is Mom,’ and ‘my mom’s favorite food is salad.’ She also says that I live in Las Vegas, which—I don’t know, I’ve never lived in Las Vegas—but I like it,” Drew says. “This piece is probably the one that makes me cry the most. It’s very emotional.”
That’s the thing about Flower Kids—yes, it’s playful, as anyone who sees the alligator toy trunk or the massive, pear-shaped bookshelf can attest—but it’s got soul. There’s a reason for each piece’s existence, one that’s not just about boosting Drew’s bottom line. (In fact, she’ll readily admit her insistence on a custom frame for each type of wall art isn’t very “fun from business-margins perspective.”)
At the end of the day, she’s approaching every piece as a parent: “What is the theme of your kid, and their passions, and their curiosities?” she asks. “Design-wise, to feed into that and create a space for them that amplifies and encourages what they’re interested in, is really important.” Without pausing, she smirks: “But it’s got to look cool, too.” Preach, Drew. Preach.

RuPaul, Drew Barrymore, Faith Hill and James Corden are set to headline The World’s Best, a global talent competition.
The 10-episode series comes from reality TV veterans Mark Burnett (Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television) and Mike Darnell (MGM Television), who are best known for their involvement in The Voice and American Idol.
Set to premiere in 2019, the series will feature acts from every genre as they attempt to break through the “wall of the world”. Not only will they have to impress the judging panel, but they’ll have to win over 50 of the world’s most accomplished entertainment experts.
Sharon Vuong – CBS’ SVP, Alternative Programming for CBS – said: “It’s only fitting that The World’s Best perform in front of the world’s best. James, Drew, Faith and RuPaul are all amazing talents who have excelled in their respective fields on a global scale. Blame it on body chemistry, but fragrances—no matter how high-end—never seem to linger on me longer than an hour. Leave it to Drew Barrymore to create the anecdote. The latest from her line, Flower Beauty, is a six-part fragrance collection called “Pretty Deadly.” It’s comprised of three spicy floral scents, all of which are rendered in both eau de parfum and body mist form. And here’s the magic part: I find that if double-up on a single fragrance by spraying on the body mist version post-shower, then applying the eau de parfum as normal, the scent lasts for the whole day. Yep, really.
Of course, you can also wear them each alone or mix-and-match perfumes and mists to create a unique combo. But if, like me, you need a little extra insurance, layering two forms of the same scent is a total game-changer.
Norm Macdonald’s new Netflix talk show is finally set to make its debut and the streaming service has unveiled a profanity-filled first look at the series.
In the preview for Norm Macdonald Has a Show the comedian sits down with a long list of stars, including Drew Barrymore, David Letterman, Jane Fonda, David Spade, Chevy Chase, M. Night Shyamalan, Michael Keaton, and Lorne Michaels.
Along with his sidekick Adam Eget, the Saturday Night Live alum asks such probing questions as “Do you miss cocaine?” to Barrymore and “Have you been thinking about your mortality a lot lately?” to Letterman. In between talking strip clubs with Judge Judy and Chase quipping that he “f—ed” Bob Dylan, there are plenty of clumsy on-set mishaps to enjoy.
First announced in March, series is based on his podcast/web series Norm Macdonald Live and is set to debut on Sept. 14.
As we know how much Drew loves watching cooking shows I am excited by this fun news that Fox has shared.
Actress Drew Barrymore is stepping into the world of reality TV after signing up to produce a new cooking competition.
The Charlie’s Angels star has been brushing up on her culinary skills since wedding husband Will Kopelman and becoming a mum to daughter Olive last year, and she has become obsessed with watching cooks battle it out on TV.
She reveals she records “every food competition show” to watch while she’s at home, and now Barrymore has decided to step behind the scenes to create her own, titled Knife Fight, for America’s Esquire Network, according to Marie Claire magazine.
The actress also admits she has developed a fascination with all things Italian, and plans to one day travel to the European country to learn how to make hearty family meals from local chefs.
She says, “(I want) to live in Italy for a summer and go to cooking school while I’m there.”
A premiere date for Knife Fight has yet to be announced.
People.com shares Drew’s changing hair tones!
We’ve been so busy admiring Drew Barrymore‘s lipstick choices lately that we almost completely missed the fact that she’s been slowly lightening her hair for months.
From the deep chocolate hue she was wearing in December, the actress has seemed to go lighter almost from the tips up, getting progressively more ombré before landing on auburn.
Then at Saturday’s GLAAD Awards, she debuted an even blonder style, going for an allover honey color with hints of strawberry that looks amazing with her fair skin.
She’s not the only star who’s been lightening up for spring and we are loving this new, blonder crew.

Drew is on the list of People’s Most Beautiful for 2013.
“Happiness is the best makeup any woman can wear,” Barrymore, who recently launched a makeup line, told E!. “It’s all about the inside … that’s where the poison or the sunshine lays.” It’s probably all sunshine these days for the new mom, 38, who welcomed her “biggest crush,” daughter Olive, in October.
